SHIGEKYE
Shigekye began his professional career as a dancer in his teens.
In 2000, he won first place at the co.dance Competition (Los Angeles) in the United States, marking the start of his international journey.
He went on to perform in numerous stage productions and live events, expanding his career as a backup dancer for internationally renowned artists such as 2PM, IU, and Park Hyun-bin.
Through these cross-genre and cross-cultural experiences, he continuously refined his expressive range beyond borders and styles.
In his twenties, he expanded into acting, appearing in television dramas and stage productions, including the NHK Taiga drama Yae no Sakura.
He also worked as a choreographer for 2.5D stage productions, further broadening his creative scope across multiple disciplines.
In his thirties, guided by fate and connection, Shigekye entered the world of Kabuki as a disciple of the Koraiya lineage.
In August 2018, he made his Kabuki debut at Kabukiza Theatre, performing the role of a traveler in Tōkaidōchū Hizakurige.
Through this experience, he deeply encountered the beauty and spiritual depth of traditional Japanese performing arts, forming the core of his artistic identity.
Now in his forties, with the intention of creating a new form of entertainment that fuses all of his life’s experiences, he chose to step away from the path of Kabuki he once walked with gratitude.
To deliver a one-of-a-kind dance that “colors the heart simply by being seen,”
he founded SEMBU Inc.
Tradition and innovation.
Stillness and motion.
Crossing every boundary,
Shigekye continues to dance—and to deliver.
